Strengthening capacity of governments and policy-makers: Needs, challenges, and opportunities

UNITAR as the main training arm of the UN and mandated to build capacity of member states, conducts training programmes for government officials in areas of environmental law, environmnental goverance, climate change and waste management.

Based on experience gathered through its training programmes, the presentation will discuss the main challenges UNITAR faces in its training programmes, and suggest ways in which these can be addressed. With UNITAR's main target audience being adults, often hight-ranking officials, the presentation will also try to elaborate on the particularities of this target audience, and the way the capacity development measures translate into policy.
