Colourful kick-off to the 5th World Environmental Education Congress!

The enthusiasm was palpable as the 5th World Environmental Congress, Earth, our common home, officially opened in Montréal yesterday. From the earliest moments, delegates were clearly moved by the inspiring and tone-setting message delivered by keynote speaker Stephen Lewis.

It was then the musical production company L’Arsenal’s turn to woo the audience with its opening show The Ark, a multidisciplinary presentation focusing the spotlight on the fragile balance between humankind and nature in a tribute to biodiversity and life. Skilfully transcending all language and stressing in powerful and symbolic terms the responsibility incumbent upon each and every one of us to build a better world for tomorrow, it was a truly stirring celebration of diversity!

Today, the 2,000 delegates will benefit from the insight of guest speakers Ricardo Petrella, Adriana Puiggrós, Peter Cole and Pat O’Reilly before diving into the specific activities surrounding the Congress’ 12 thematic niches.

Delegates will also have the opportunity to hear from NPO representatives on their organizations’ accomplishments and perspectives. An ideal opportunity to meet exceptional individuals who turn their passion into action each and every day.

Together, these events are sure to pave the way for the fruitful discussions, knowledge-sharing and brainstorming that will continue throughout the Congress.

Nightfall will bring more exciting Congress experiences as the International Festival of Environmental Storytelling gets under way! Be sure to join us at the Café Sarajevo and Bar populaire for this unique, entertaining and extraordinary event!

Join the artisans of the Congress for this festive rendezvous at the crossroads of biodiversity, fantasy and eco-responsibility. Surprises, laughter and thrills are on the agenda for this nocturnal adventure as you experience An Evening Under the Moon.  Wind your way through the ecosystems while enjoying a rich array of interactive artistic presentations featuring song, dance, music and circus arts. A 5th ecosystem, that of eco-responsibility, will showcase the importance of responsible consumption, all in a fun and entertaining atmosphere.
