Congress opening: magical moments in store!

The architects and organizers of the 5^th World Environmental Congress are eagerly awaiting your arrival to celebrate the opening of this important event! Beginning on Sunday, May 10, at 3:30 p.m., join us for an experience that promises to be rich in hope and ideas for a better Earth, our common home.

After welcome words from Congress organizers and a vibrant and inspiring keynote address by Stephen Lewis, enjoy a feast of sight and sound with  L’Arsenal’s The Ark, a dance, acrobatics and multimedia show that focuses the spotlight on the fragile balance between humankind and nature in a hymn to biodiversity and to life! Through forms of expression that transcend language, this show stresses in powerful and symbolic terms the important responsibility incumbent upon each and every one of us to build a better world for tomorrow. Climb aboard The Ark to preserve, protect and celebrate the diversity of the world’s species and its cultures!

The opening session of the Congress will continue through to noon on Monday, May 11, with a series of plenary conferences. First, Ricardo Petrella and Adriana Puiggrós will offer their own distinct angles on the cross-cutting questions of the Congress, after which Peter Cole and Pat O’Riley will share a native perspective on these key questions:

• How can environmental education add meaning to our personal and collective lives?
• How can it contribute to social innovation?
• How can it help influence public policy?

These opening events will pave the way for the fruitful exchanges, discussions and reflections that are sure to flourish throughout the Congress. An opportunity you won’t want to miss!
