Preparations for the 5th World Environmental Education Congress are going well!

Co‑chairs Bob Jickling and Lucie Sauvé, along with the Association québécoise pour la promotion de l'éducation relative à l'environnement (AQPERE) and the Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication (EECOM), are sparing no effort to make this world congress one of the most significant international environmental education gatherings.

A diverse program, anchored in a multicultural, participative dynamic, is now developing. To find out more about the Congress themes and the various activities, click on Congress Overview. Visit the congress‑space, Exhibition fair and Parallel activities.

The call for papers is on!

The deadline is September 30, 2008.

There are many of you who are striving for a better Earth, Our Common Home. Wherever you live in the world, your actions are key to building a better future. Come share them with us in Montréal!

Would you like to communicate your thoughts, research, accomplishments or progress on environmental education? Submit your paper proposal on‑line at www.5weec.uqam.ca under "Call for papers".

Moreover, cultural diversity will be promoted throughout the entire congress to foster cross‑cultural discussion. So feel free to submit your paper proposal in one of the congress' three official languages: English, French or Spanish.

A carbon‑neutral event

Every effort is being made to make the 5th World Environmental Education Congress a carbon‑neutral event. Therefore, the Eco‑responsibility Committee* has devised a strategy—to be followed rigorously—to assess and offset greenhouse gases released during participants' travel.

Whether it's through planting trees, buying carbon credits or any other offsetting activity, CO2 emissions from the Congress will be neutralized!

*The Eco‑responsibility Committee is led by the Réseau québécois des femmes en environnement.

Internationally renowned figures will open the congress with plenary lectures.

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that we introduce the high‑profile lecturers who have agreed to open the congress. They will each share in their unique way their visionary thoughts for a better Earth, Our Common Home.

Stephen Lewis

A seasoned politician, respected diplomat, environmentalist, and passionate humanist, Stephen Lewis is currently a professor in Global Health, Faculty of Social Sciences at McMaster University, Canada, and is Co‑Director of AIDS‑Free World, a new AIDS advocacy organization.

Riccardo Petrella

A political scientist and economist, an extraordinary professor emeritus at the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium, Ricardo Petrella is a symbolic figure of alterglobalism. He is Secretary General of the International Committee for the Global Water Contract and initiator of the University for the Common Good.

Adriana Puiggrós

A pillar of popular education in Latin America, Adriana Puiggrós has been very influent in promoting critical pedagogy, following Paolo-Freire’s work. She is currently a member of Argentina's federal parliament, professor in the University of Buenos Aires' Faculty of Philosophy and Arts and a senior researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research.

The NGO Forum

The NGO Forum is an innovative activity, offered in the congress‑space. It invites non‑governmental organizations involved in environmental education to present their projects, programs and productions in an exhibit hall especially set up for them.

In this way, every organization will be able to greet participants, present their goals and accomplishments, share and discuss their experiences and build or reinforce networks.

Interested? You are invited to submit for paper proposal under the NGO Forum as indicated on the on‑line form
